From 2010 to 2012, the Internal Revenue Service paid nearly $3 million dollars in bonuses to employees with disciplinary problems, including some who still owed the government back taxes. Others cited for misuse of credit cards or fraudulently claiming unemployment benefits.
The findings come from a Treasury Department Inspector General's report, which finds the bonuses do not violate any Federal regulations, but are inconsistent with the IRS mission to enforce tax laws.
